Hey parents! Here's the next round of info for our class. As always, thank you for everything that you all do to help out!
-We have Antelope Island this week on Wednesday. When you come in to do your co-oping, look at the drivers sheet for the trip. We'll be coming back to my house to chill and have some Astro bars at about 1:30...depending on how everyone is doing with the sun. PLEASE remember to tell me if your student needs to have a school lunch made up for them. We have to know by Monday. I'm sending in the letter on Monday either way, so, if you don't get the info to me then you will have to pack a luch for them.
-We have snack this week at 10:00 AM as always. Refresh yourselves on when you have snack for the class.
-We have a short week this week. Classes are on Monday through Thursday, with Thursday being a short day. This bit of information is very important because I was wrong in writing that snack centers would start this week. We will keep all the same dates as you had them and just move Evan's snack center back to a hole that doesn't have anyone (sorry!).
-We are going to have a class party/campout at my house on the 23rd of October. This will be a potluck event and a byob one too. I'd love to have the kids there, if possible too.
-I need to have kid co-oping forms turned in from the following
people: Devin, Evan, Genevieve, Jane, Olivia, Tren. Please have them fill the form out and sign it seeing that you understand what they are doing and that they can teach that for a class time.
-Feel free to ask me questions about what is due anytime after school. I will most definitely field all the questions that you have.
In case you missed the meeting, here it is, in black and white. Please note the important dates at the end, including the next parent meeting. Alex would like to have the parent meetings earlier than 6 pm, so there may be more discussion on that front.
Notes From Parent Meeting, September 15, 2010

There is a clipboard with a list of forms and whether you turned them in or not.
Please double check that you turned them all in

Students will be half-day at Antelope Island, half-day at Alex’s house
Short Discussions
· What’s going well?
o Jerry: Literacy time
· What do you need help on or what can we work on in class?
o Art supplies NEEDED: cups, paintbrushes, any craft items, oil pastels, stickers, ribbon, yarn, smocks, old T-shirts, yogurt containers. Michelle will send out a list of what is needed, so you can look through your stuff and donate things you don’t need!
o In 2 months: inventions, sculptures using old parts (wire, metal, tin cans, etc.) start saving those things now
o Circle time: most important whether they are respecting other kids and contributing, attentiveness, if where they are sitting distracts them, they may need to move
· Party at Alex’s house?
o Saturday, October 23, 2010 pumpkin patch, camping?
· Field Trip Coordinator: Need one?
· Kitchen supplies needed too
· List will be posted for class supplies if you have stuff to donate
· Snack is at 10 AM, if you forget snack please bring something for the cabinet
· Silly bands: rubber things on their wrists are distracting from learning; trade at recess, Alex will take them if they are detracting from the class
· Co-op Meetings: if you have not gone to a co-op meeting, they will be going on for the rest of the week; everyone who co-ops needs to attend one
· Request!: Aiden Maraffio (big brown eyes, curly hair) has seizures. Please remind him to drink water if you see him looking confused or tired. When he gets dehydrated, he has seizures. So please help him to avoid this!! Thank you.
· Social studies may be before or after choice time. Alex will give co-opers lessons that they will teach in small groups. He will give co-opers a 3-4 week lesson in a mini-course format.
· Assessments: fluency (Dibbles), spelling, comprehension (take a long time, Alex is about 1/3 of the way through the class, 20 minutes/kid). Alex would like to do 2-3 per day and get them done in the next week. After that, he will move to 45 minute blocks of writing and other literacy components. On the day you come in, you will have specific kids to work with and you will work with those kids every week. Talking about writing, spelling, punctuation, writing ideas down, getting them to write. Trying to make writing fun. Motivating them to write.
· Julie: Steering Update. She will send minutes this week. Calendar option: the majority was option A, basically what we have now. Please look at the playground options and give feedback. Please sign up for a committee: Fundraising, etc. Talk to Kim for options. Feedback needed on school wide expectations: questions, etc.
· Please, if you have not already, give your donation to the PFOE. You can do so in the envelope in the classroom or the box in the office, across from Barb’s desk.
